MEMBER OF THE MONTH – RUTH MECHLING

Ruth Mechling joined the First Presbyterian Church of Crafton in 1938.  First Church later joined with the Bradford Avenue United Presbyterian Church in 1966 to form our present congregation.

Ruth worked for a number of years at Gimbel’s, and during the 1950s she and her husband ran a restaurant on Noble Avenue in Crafton.

Over the years Ruth has been involved in the church in many ways.  She has been a circle leader for the Presbyterian Women, and she is the current president of that organization, a position she has held for quite some time.  Ruth helped with BYOK (Bring Your Own Kids), cooked for the Wednesday afternoon children’s program, taught Sunday School, and served as an elder.

Ruth has a rather large family, including 4 daughters, 3 sons, 16 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

Her favorite hymn is “Faith of our Fathers,” and she likes Psalm 121.

Ruth has enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, reading, and doing crossword puzzles.  As pets, over the years she has had dogs, a canary, and fish.
