MEMBER OF THE MONTH – ALICE DORFIELD

Alice
Dorfield presently lives at Chartiers
Manor in McKees Rocks. However, Alice spent most
of her life in Crafton. She was born on Mildred Street, and lived
for many years on Lincoln Avenue, where the Erickson’s,
Boyd’s and Nolf’s – fellow church members – lived as
well.
Alice
is a lifelong member of the church, having been baptized in the First
Presbyterian Church of Crafton, which merged in 1966 with the Bradford Avenue
United Presbyterian Church to form our present congregation.
From
1931-1945 Alice worked as
the secretary to the Dean of Men at the University of Pittsburgh.
In
1960, Alice was in
charge of taking the census in Crafton.
Five years later, she was also responsible for doing an update based on
people who had moved in and out of the community.
Over
the years Alice has been
very involved with our church’s Presbyterian Women group, and she has served as
the organization’s chairman.
Alice
married Alvin Dorfield in 1939,
and they had two sons – Alan and Scott. Alice now has
three granddaughters.
Alice named “The Battle Hymn of the
Republic” as her favorite hymn, and she said the 23rd Psalm is her
favorite part of the Bible. In her free
time, Alice enjoys to
read.
